Stewart Udall

Stewart Lee Udall (1920–2010) was an American politician, lawyer, and author who served as U.S. Secretary of the Interior from 1961 to 1969 under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. A Democrat from Arizona, he represented the state in the U.S. House of Representatives (1955–1961). As Interior Secretary, Udall helped expand the national park system and advanced major conservation initiatives, including support for the Wilderness Act and the Land and Water Conservation Fund. He later wrote widely on environmental policy and public lands. Udall was the brother of Congressman Morris K. Udall.
