Sugar Ray Robinson (born Walker Smith Jr.; May 3, 1921–April 12, 1989) was an American professional boxer widely regarded as one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters in history. He competed from 1940 to 1965 and became a dominant welterweight champion before also excelling at middleweight. Robinson won the world welterweight title in 1946 and later captured the world middleweight championship multiple times, setting a record with five reigns. Known for exceptional speed, power, and ring intelligence, he helped define modern boxing technique and popularity.
