Sun Tzu

Sun Tzu (Sunzi) is the traditional name of a Chinese military strategist credited with *The Art of War*, an influential treatise on warfare and statecraft. He is conventionally placed in the late Spring and Autumn period (often dated to the 5th century BCE) and is associated in later tradition with the state of Wu. The work attributed to him presents concise principles on planning, intelligence, leadership, and the use of deception, and it became a foundational text in Chinese military thought. Sun Tzu’s historicity and exact identity remain debated, and modern scholarship treats the received biography as uncertain.
