Taylor Caldwell

Taylor Caldwell (1900–1985) was a British-born American novelist whose bestselling career centered on sweeping historical and biographical fiction. Born in Manchester, England, she emigrated to the United States as a child and later became a U.S. citizen. Caldwell wrote numerous popular novels noted for dramatic storytelling, moral themes, and large casts set against major political and cultural events. Among her best-known works are *Captains and the Kings* (1972), a multigenerational saga, and *Dear and Glorious Physician* (1959), a fictionalized portrait of St. Luke.
