Terry Pratchett

Sir Terence David John Pratchett (1948–2015) was an English novelist best known for the Discworld series, a long-running sequence of comic fantasy novels set on a flat world carried through space on the backs of four elephants standing on a giant turtle. Born in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, he began his career as a journalist before publishing his first novel, *The Carpet People* (1971). Discworld began with *The Colour of Magic* (1983) and grew into a major body of work blending satire, wit, and social commentary. Pratchett was appointed OBE in 1998 and was knighted in 2009.
