Texas Guinan (Mary Louise Cecilia Guinan, 1884–1933) was an American vaudeville performer, actress, and Prohibition-era New York nightclub hostess and entrepreneur. Born in Waco, Texas, she adopted the stage name “Texas” and became a popular entertainer, appearing in vaudeville and in early motion pictures. During the 1920s she rose to fame in New York City as the charismatic face of high-profile speakeasies, where her brash, comic style and celebrity clientele drew crowds despite repeated police raids. She became closely associated with the catchphrase “Hello, Suckers!” Guinan died in 1933.
