The Brahma Sutras

Bādarāyaṇa is the traditional sage credited with composing the Brahma Sūtras (also called the Vedānta Sūtras), a foundational Sanskrit text of the Vedānta school of Hindu philosophy. The work is written in concise aphorisms (sūtras) that systematize and interpret teachings associated with the Upaniṣads, especially concerning Brahman, the ultimate reality, and the nature of liberation. Later tradition often identifies Bādarāyaṇa with Vyāsa, a revered figure linked to the compilation of major Hindu scriptures, though this identification is not historically verifiable. The Brahma Sūtras became a central reference for later commentators, including Śaṅkara, Rāmānuja, and Madhva.
