Thomas Fuller
Thomas Fuller (1608–1661) was an English churchman and historian known for his lively prose and wide learning. Educated at Queens’ College, Cambridge, he became a clergyman in the Church of England and later served as a chaplain during the English Civil War. Fuller is remembered for blending moral reflection with historical observation, often enlivened by wit and aphorism. His major works include *The Holy State* (1642), a series of character sketches and ethical portraits, and *The Worthies of England* (published posthumously in 1662), a county-by-county compendium of notable figures and local history. He also wrote *The Church-History of Britain* (1655).
