Thomas Menino

Thomas Michael Menino (1942–2014) was an American politician who served as the 53rd Mayor of Boston from 1993 to 2014, the longest tenure in the city’s history. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served on the Boston City Council and was its president before becoming mayor. Menino’s administration emphasized neighborhood services, public safety, and economic development, and he played a prominent role in guiding the city through major events, including the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Though not primarily a literary author, his public statements and civic leadership made him a widely quoted figure in Boston’s modern political life.
