Thomas Moore

Thomas Moore (1779–1852) was an Irish poet, singer-songwriter, and satirist, born in Dublin. He studied at Trinity College Dublin and became widely known for *Irish Melodies* (1808–1834), a series of songs that paired traditional airs with his lyrics and helped popularize Irish music and sentiment in Britain and beyond. Moore also wrote narrative and lyrical poetry, including *Lalla Rookh* (1817), and produced political satire. He moved in prominent literary circles and wrote a biography of Lord Byron, with whom he was acquainted. In later life he lived mainly in England, and he died in Wiltshire in 1852.
