Thucydides
Little is known about the life of the Greek historian and Athenian general Thucydides’; most of what is known about him comes from his own account, History of the Peloponnesian War. Thucydides was likely born to an affluent family and survived the Plague of Athens that killed many Athenians. He famously fought in the 5th century BC war between Athens and Sparta and was later exiled from Athens , using the opportunity to travel and get other perspectives on the war. Thucydides has been called the father of “political realism” and his text is still studied at many military colleges.
