Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks (Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, born July 9, 1956) is an American actor and filmmaker. He rose to prominence with comedic roles in films such as *Splash* (1984) and *Big* (1988), then became widely known for dramatic performances in *Philadelphia* (1993) and *Forrest Gump* (1994), winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for both. His later work includes *Saving Private Ryan* (1998), *Cast Away* (2000), and *Captain Phillips* (2013). Hanks has also worked as a producer and director. In addition to screen work, he authored the short-story collection *Uncommon Type* (2017).
