Thomas Kennerly “Tom” Wolfe Jr. (1930–2018) was an American journalist and author closely associated with New Journalism, a style that blended reporting with literary techniques. He rose to prominence writing for major magazines and newspapers, becoming known for sharp social observation and distinctive prose. Wolfe’s nonfiction books include *The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test* (1968), an account of Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters, and *The Right Stuff* (1979), about the early U.S. space program. He later achieved wide popular success as a novelist with *The Bonfire of the Vanities* (1987), a satire of 1980s New York City.
