Tommy Bolt

Tommy Bolt (1916–2008) was an American professional golfer remembered for a fiery temper and a powerful, aggressive style of play. Born in Haworth, Oklahoma, he turned professional in the 1940s and became a prominent figure on the PGA Tour in the 1950s. Bolt’s career highlight came at the 1958 U.S. Open at Southern Hills, where he won his only major championship. He also captured multiple PGA Tour titles and represented the United States in international team competition, including the Ryder Cup. Nicknamed “Thunder” for both his swing and his outbursts, Bolt remained one of golf’s most colorful personalities.
