Vern Law
Vern Law was born in Meridian, Idaho in 1930. He was raised in the LDS church and made an LDS deacon at age 12, and a priest at 17. Law excelled in baseball and played for the minor leagues in 1948 and 1949. In 1950, Law joined the major league, playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. From 1951 through 1954, Law served in the military, and in 1954, Law resumed playing for the Pirates. Law had numerous career highlights, including helping the Pirates defeat the New York Yankees in the 1960 World Series and making the All-Star team twice. Law retired in 1967 with a career record of 162-147.
