Vicente Huidobro
Vicente Huidobro (1893–1948) was a Chilean poet and avant-garde writer best known as the founder of Creacionismo (Creationism), a literary movement that argued the poem should be an autonomous creation rather than a mirror of reality. Born in Santiago, he became a leading figure in early 20th-century Hispanic modernism and the international avant-garde. Huidobro spent significant periods in Europe, engaging with contemporary artistic circles and promoting his aesthetic ideas through manifestos and publications. His work is marked by bold imagery, linguistic experimentation, and a drive to reinvent poetic form. He died in Cartagena, Chile, in 1948.
