Vikram Patel

Vikram Patel is an Indian psychiatrist and global mental health researcher whose work has helped shape the field’s focus on low- and middle-income countries. He is the Pershing Square Professor of Global Health at Harvard Medical School and a professor in Harvard’s Department of Global Health and Social Medicine. Patel previously worked at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. His research has advanced evidence-based approaches to expanding mental health care, including “task-shifting” models that train and support non-specialist health workers to deliver psychological and community-based interventions. He has also contributed to global policy and advocacy on mental health and development.
