Vita Sackville-West

Vita Sackville-West (1892–1962) was an English poet, novelist, and garden writer. Born Victoria Mary Sackville-West, she grew up at Knole in Kent, an experience that later informed her writing. She published widely across genres, including poetry, fiction, biography, and journalism, and won the Hawthornden Prize in 1927 for her long poem *The Land*. Sackville-West was associated with the Bloomsbury Group and is also remembered for her relationship with Virginia Woolf, which inspired Woolf’s novel *Orlando*. With her husband, diplomat Harold Nicolson, she created the celebrated Sissinghurst Castle Garden in Kent, now cared for by the National Trust.
