Walter Cronkite

Walter Cronkite (1916–2009) was an American broadcast journalist best known as the anchor of the *CBS Evening News*. He joined CBS News in 1950 and became the program’s anchor in 1962, serving until 1981. Cronkite reported on major events of the 20th century, including U.S. space missions—most notably the Apollo 11 moon landing—along with presidential elections and national crises. His calm, authoritative delivery helped define modern television news.
