Walter Lord
Walter Lord (1917–2002) was an American historian and author known for popular narrative histories. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he graduated from Princeton University and later earned a law degree from Yale. Lord served in U.S. military intelligence during World War II. He achieved wide recognition with *A Night to Remember* (1955), his account of the 1912 sinking of the RMS *Titanic*, based on extensive interviews and research; the book helped renew public interest in the disaster and was adapted for film. Lord wrote numerous other works of history, including *The Dawn’s Early Light* and *Day of Infamy*, noted for vivid storytelling and attention to firsthand sources.
