Walter Savage Landor
Walter Savage Landor (1775–1864) was an English writer and poet noted for his classical learning, independent temperament, and polished prose. Educated at Rugby School and Trinity College, Oxford, he left Oxford without taking a degree. Landor wrote in several genres, including lyric and satiric verse, but is best remembered for *Imaginary Conversations* (1824–1829), a series of dialogues between historical and literary figures that displays his command of style and character. His poetry often drew on Greek and Roman models and aimed at formal clarity. In later life he lived for long periods in Italy, and he died in Florence.
