Wayne Gretzky

Wayne Gretzky is widely considered the finest hockey player of the twentieth century. Born in Brantford, Ontario, he was a hockey prodigy, dominating against ten year-olds when he was only six. As he grew, he continued to excel at the sport. After junior, he joined the WHA, a short-lived competitor league to the NHL, because they accepted teenagers while the NHL did not. He joined the NHL a year later, when the WHA folded and his team, the Edmonton Oilers, joined the NHL. For the next decade he dominated the sport, setting more records than any other player in history. He then moved to Los Angeles, where he helped popularize the sport in California. After retirement, he became an unofficial ambassador for the sport, as well as part-owner and coach of the Phoenix Coyotes.
