William Drummond
William Drummond of Hawthornden (1585–1649) was a Scottish poet of the Jacobean era. Born in Edinburgh, he studied at the University of Edinburgh and later travelled on the Continent. He lived much of his life at Hawthornden Castle near Edinburgh, where he wrote lyric poetry and prose. Drummond is known for sonnet sequences and for *Forth Feasting* (1617), a poem celebrating the visit of King James VI and I to Scotland. His prose work *Conversations with Ben Jonson* records Jonson’s 1618–19 visit to Hawthornden and remains an important literary document. Drummond died in 1649.
