William Gass

William H. Gass (1924–2017) was an American novelist, essayist, and philosopher. He is known for fiction that foregrounds language and form, including the novel *Omensetter’s Luck* and the later, ambitious *The Tunnel*. Gass also wrote influential essays on literature and aesthetics, often examining how style shapes meaning.
