William Maginn
William Maginn (1794–1842) was an Irish journalist, satirist, and literary critic. Born in Cork, he was educated at Trinity College Dublin and became known for sharp, combative wit in periodical writing. Maginn was a prominent contributor to *Blackwood’s Magazine*, where his satirical essays and literary attacks helped shape the magazine’s influential tone in the 1820s. He later moved to London and, in 1830, co-founded *Fraser’s Magazine*, another leading forum for literary criticism and political commentary. His career was marked by prolific authorship across newspapers and magazines, and his reputation rests on his role in the vibrant, often polemical culture of nineteenth-century British and Irish journalism.
