William Osler
Sir William Osler (1849–1919) was a Canadian physician and medical educator who helped shape modern clinical medicine. Born in Bond Head, Canada West (now Ontario), he studied at McGill University and became a professor there before holding posts at the University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins University. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, he was one of the four founding professors and promoted bedside teaching and careful clinical observation. In 1905 he became Regius Professor of Medicine at the University of Oxford. Osler wrote influential medical texts, including *The Principles and Practice of Medicine* (1892), and was a founding figure of the Association of American Physicians.
