William Tyndale
William Tyndale (c. 1494–1536) was an English scholar and Protestant reformer whose work helped shape early Reformation literature in England. He is best known for translating the Bible into English, aiming to make Scripture accessible to ordinary readers. In 1526 he published an English New Testament, a landmark in the history of English Bible translation. Tyndale’s writings and translations circulated widely and proved influential, even as they drew opposition from authorities. His phrasing and vocabulary left a lasting imprint on later English Bible versions and on English religious prose. He died in 1536.
