This quote is from photo retoucher Becci Manson’s June 2012 TED Talk. The quote means that photographs are the most important mementos people have; they are physical proof of our personal histories and we value them so deeply that they are the items we would most want to save out of all our possessions.

After the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami, Manson worked together with local volunteers and a global group of colleagues she recruited to help clean and retouch the photos of the tsunami victims and then return them to their owners.
