Sin is the parent of misery.

A moral-theological maxim commonly used in Christian commentary to link wrongdoing with the suffering that follows, either as consequence, judgment, or the natural results of harmful choices.

The idea is that immoral actions tend to generate suffering—personally and socially—so misery is portrayed as arising from sin rather than being random or disconnected from conduct.
