Quote #92962
It would be too easy to say that I feel invisible. Instead, I feel painfully visible, and entirely ignored.

Interpretation
The speaker distinguishes between two kinds of social erasure. “Invisible” would imply not being seen at all; “painfully visible” suggests being noticed as an object—marked, scrutinized, or judged—without being granted recognition as a full person. The sting comes from the combination: visibility without acknowledgment, attention without empathy, presence without belonging. The line captures a common experience of marginalization (including but not limited to queer experience): being singled out for difference while one’s inner life, needs, or voice are disregarded. It also critiques superficial forms of “seeing” that stop at appearance and never become understanding.
