Quote #133612
The sound of tireless voices is the price we pay for the right to hear the music of our own opinions.

Interpretation
The line frames free expression as a reciprocal bargain rather than a one-sided entitlement. If we want the “music” of our own views to be heard—i.e., the satisfaction and civic value of speaking, persuading, and dissenting—we must accept the accompanying “price”: enduring other people’s relentless, repetitive, or unwelcome speech (“tireless voices”). The metaphor suggests that pluralism is noisy and sometimes exhausting, but that this noise is inseparable from liberty. Implicitly, it warns against seeking comfort through censorship or enforced quiet, because silencing others ultimately threatens the conditions that protect one’s own voice.
