Quote #13491
We've got fourteen women in the Senate. Fourteen women in the Senate? We are 52 percent of the population. Apparently women do suck at math.

Interpretation
Poundstone uses a deliberately absurd punchline—“women do suck at math”—to expose the real absurdity: women’s severe underrepresentation in a body that governs a population in which women are a slight majority. The joke works by feigning that the disparity must be women’s fault, when the audience is meant to recognize structural and cultural barriers (party recruitment, fundraising networks, incumbency advantages, sexism in media coverage, and voter bias) as the more plausible explanation. The line also satirizes how society sometimes blames marginalized groups for inequities produced by institutions. Its bite comes from compressing a political critique into a single, self-undermining quip.
