Quote #38978
Negro blood is sure powerful—because just one drop of black blood makes a colored man. One drop—you are a Negro!… Black is powerful.

Interpretation
The line turns the racist “one-drop rule” on its head. Instead of treating Black ancestry as a contaminant that diminishes a person, the speaker ironically calls Black blood “powerful,” exposing the absurdity and brutality of a legal-social regime that could reclassify someone’s entire identity on the basis of a trace of ancestry. The repetition of “one drop” mimics the rule’s mechanical certainty, while the concluding “Black is powerful” reclaims what white supremacy framed as stigma. The effect is both satirical and defiant: it critiques racial essentialism while affirming Blackness as a source of strength and solidarity.
